HoneyGuardian RFID Smart Feeder: fixes, reset and setup
Lights, beeps and error messages
| What you see or hear | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Feed/Unlock button light blinking | Food level in the hopper is low. | Refill the hopper with dry food. |
| Wi-Fi light blinking | Network pairing mode. | Finish adding the device in the HGsmart app. |
| Wi-Fi light off | Offline, or asleep while running on batteries. | Run it on the 5 V 2 A adapter (or the optional lithium pack) for online use; re-pair Wi-Fi if needed. |
| Bowl-lid light blinking | The app is in 'Add Collar' mode. | Bring the collar tag near the bowl to finish binding. |
| Anomaly reported when the lid moves | Lid movement was obstructed. The motor torque is limited to avoid pinching. | Find and remove whatever is blocking the lid. |
Food jams
Dry food only. HoneyGuardian recommends 2-12 mm kibble to prevent jamming. Turn the dispensing rotor to the sealed position before refitting the hopper. A dominant pet can stop the bowl lid closing normally.
How to reset it
Wi-Fi reset only: hold the Feed/Unlock button 3 seconds to unlock the touch keys, then touch the Wi-Fi Reset key for 3 seconds until the feeder beeps and enters pairing mode.
What a reset erases: Wi-Fi settings and all bound collar tags, so tags must be re-bound afterwards.
No separate full factory reset is described in the manual.
Setting it up
- Place it at least 25 cm (10 in) from other RFID devices and away from large metal objects and appliances, within good Wi-Fi range of a socket.
- Fit the bowl lid and slide its lock left; plug the power lead into the base and connect the 5 V 2 A adapter, optionally adding 4 AA batteries; the feeder starts and closes the lid.
- Plug the bowl base into the RFID antenna port, put the washed and dried ceramic bowl in it and press on the two bowl shields.
- Check the outlet rotor is turned to the sealed position, lock the hopper on, add dry kibble (2-12 mm) and refit the lid with the desiccant underneath.
- Install the HGsmart app and, on adapter power, add the device over Bluetooth (it enters pairing mode on first power-up); enter your Wi-Fi details.
- In the app tap Add for the collar (the feeder beeps), hold the tag 15-20 cm from the bowl, tap Link Pet and Confirm. HoneyGuardian suggests Always Open mode at first so the pet gets used to it.
Cleaning
Unplug, remove the battery compartment and take out the desiccant. Rinse the hopper and ceramic bowl in clean water and wipe surfaces with a damp cloth. Keep moisture out of the bowl base and feeder base, never immerse or rinse them, and don't submerge the bowl lid. Air-dry everything before reassembly. Replace the desiccant every 15 days (the app has a desiccant timer). HoneyGuardian doesn't mention dishwashers.
Power and batteries
5 V 2 A adapter, plus 4 AA batteries as backup (not included). On AA batteries the feeder runs offline: scheduled feeding and RFID recognition keep working, the app and Wi-Fi don't, and it sleeps between radar wake-ups to save power. An optional HoneyGuardian lithium battery module (sold separately) keeps it fully online; if it runs flat the feeder shuts down until the adapter is reconnected.
Wi-Fi and the app
Wi-Fi via the HGsmart app, with Bluetooth used to add the device. The Wi-Fi band is not stated. Offline (on AA batteries) the feeder keeps basic feeding but has no remote control.
Warranty
12 months (manual says one year). Usage and extended-warranty questions go to service@honeyguardian.com; order questions go to the seller.
